Six almost equidistant release sites were chosen by an international commission of scientists in the alpine range. In a pilot-study for the first time young Bearded Vultures were released close to Rauris in the Hole Tauern National Park (A) in 1986. These were followed by annual releases in :
Bargy / Haute-Savoie (F) since 1987, and Doran on Sallanches city since 1999.
Swiss National Park / Engadine (CH) since 1991,
Alpi Marittime Natural Park (I) / Mercantour National Park (F) since 1993.
The last created release site is the Stelvio National Park (I) in 2000.
